Information

Coricancha or Qorikancha was a sacred building of the Incas, in the current city of Cusco in Peru.

In Inca times, it was a ceremonial sun temple covered with gold. Then the Spaniards destroyed it and built the convent of Santo Domingo on its ruins.

Nowadays, in the place we can see the temple of Santo Domingo, and in its interior several original Inca walls where you can distinguish its typical architecture of doors, windows and trapezoidal shaped niches. It has a site museum where archaeological samples are exhibited.

It can be visited, and is located about 500 metres from the Plaza de Armas (main square) in the historic centre of Cusco. To enter you need to show or buy a tourist ticket there.
