Máncora

Information

It is a locality in the north of Peru, on the Pacific coast. It belongs to the department of Piura, almost on the border with the department of Tumbes. It is 1156 km from Lima, 177 km from the city of Piura and 103 km from the city of Tumbes.

It is the main tourist destination on the northern coast of the country, very popular with visitors who come to enjoy its attractive beaches. It has a good infrastructure and services to receive tourists, such as a petrol station, ATM and a large number of lodgings, restaurants and shops. There is a municipal market where local products are sold and there are also food stalls. There is a promenade for strolling along which is a central area with many shops, restaurants and places to have a drink, some with a view of the sea. There are surf schools and surfboard rentals.

You can also visit its lighthouse on top of a hill with excellent panoramic views of the area, which can be reached by climbing a stairway not far from the beach (you can take a taxi to get there). Around the Máncora square there are several handicraft stalls, and there is a lagoon with a walkway where you can see iguanas, some even perched in the trees.

On the other hand, on the way out of the city there are other localities with beaches that are easily accessible, such as Punta Sal, Los Órganos and El Ñuro.

To get to Mancora:
- There are buses from Chiclayo, Chimbote, Lima, Los Órganos, El Alto, Piura, Talara, Trujillo and Tumbes.
- To go by plane, the most frequent airports where the tourists arrive are the one of Talara (it is the nearest), the one of Tumbes and the one of Piura.
