It is a town located 29 km from Cusco, above 2900 metres above sea level. It is placed in a valley on one side of the Vilcanota River, surrounded by mountains.
It has lodgings, places to eat and shops where they sell weavings, sculptures, etc. In its market, typical food and products are offered. There is a main square with a handicraft fair, which on Sundays becomes much bigger and is filled with more stalls. You can also visit the community museum of Pisac, which has a room with archaeological exhibits and others displaying weavings and ceramics from the region.
Just up the hill are the Inca ruins of the same name (Pisac). The entrance to this archaeological park is about 9 km uphill, which requires a lot of effort if you are walking, so it is advisable to take a taxi. The complete internal tour of the ruins ends in the village.
To get from Cusco to the village of Pisac:
- By car: it is 29 kilometres along Route 28G.
- By bus: on Puputi Street in Cusco there are several companies offering the service, and they come and go every day at different times. The trip takes approximately 1 hour.
