It is a locality in the valley of Calingasta, in the province of San Juan. It is on one side of the Los Patos River.
It has a tourist information office, ATM, petrol station, grocery shops and lodgings. There is a municipal camping site with cement tables and benches, barbecues, electricity, toilets and showers. The central area is around its main square San Martín.
It is frequented by many tourists who come to visit its nearby attractions:
- Cerro El Alcazar: they are geological forms made by the action of water and wind over an area with sediments from the Triassic era.
- Pampa del Leoncito: it is an extensive, flat and white desert, with the mountain range in the background.
- Ruins of Hilario: the remains of what was part of one of the first mining ventures in the country.
- El Leoncito National Park: a protected natural area with trails, camping sites and astronomical observatories.
To get there, it is located on National Route 149, which connects it to Uspallata (Mendoza), 114 km away. Buses run daily to and from the city of San Juan.
