Ñacuñán Biosphere Reserve

Information

It is a protected area in the province of Mendoza, which preserves an area of 'algarrobo' tree forest. It is located 4 kilometres away from the town of Ñacuñán.

It is situated in an arid area and the presence of 'algarrobo' trees is of great interest.

The site is very interesting for the observation of fauna. It is very common to find mammals such as the patagonian mara (Dolichotis patagonum) and a variety of reptiles. Among the birds, apart from the common ones, it is habitual to see some interesting ones such as the chaco earthcreeper (Tarphonomus certhioides), the crested gallito (Rhinocrypta lanceolata), the spot-winged falconet (Spiziapteryx circumcincta), the cinnamon warbling-finch (Poospiza ornata), the black-breasted warbling-finch (Microspingus pectoralis), etc. At night, it is common to see the chaco owl (Strix chacoensis).
