Potrerillos

Information

Potrerillos is a small tourist village located next to a dam in the province of Mendoza. Both the village and the reservoir have the same name: Potrerillos. The landscape throughout the area is very scenic, with the water and the different colors of the surrounding hills covered in snow at certain times of the year.

Although it is a small village, it has accommodations, restaurants, grocery stores and a petrol station.

The reservoir was formed on the Mendoza River, which comes down from the Andes. The Blanco River can also be seen nearby. The dam is about 10 km long and reaches a maximum width of approximately 2 or 3 km. Along the road that runs around its southwestern side, there are several viewpoints with great panoramic views and some access points that allow you to get closer to the shore. Some water sports are practiced on the reservoir, although it is important to keep in mind that swimming is not allowed because it can be dangerous. The use of motorized boats is also usually prohibited.

Potrerillos can be reached from the city of Mendoza by first taking the Southern Access or National Route 40 for about 25 km, and then continuing along National Route 7 for approximately 42 km. Another option is to take Provincial Route 82, which is a slower road but passes through the Cacheuta area and allows you to visit its well-known hot springs.
