Information

It is a mountain in the Andes mountain range, located in the province of Mendoza. It is not a volcano but a mountain formed mainly by tectonic processes linked to the uplift of the mountain range; and its origin is related to the collision and subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate. At 6962 meters above sea level, it is the highest peak in the Americas and in the entire Southern Hemisphere. For this reason, hundreds of mountaineers from all over the world arrive each year with the goal of reaching its summit.

The best way to experience it is from Aconcagua Provincial Park, a protected area within whose boundaries the mountain is located. In this park, it is possible to climb to reach the summit. It has different climbing routes, with the Normal Route being the most commonly used by mountaineers, and there are also more demanding alternatives such as the Polish Glacier Route and the South Face which require greater technical experience. There are also several trekking options of different difficulty levels and durations that allow visitors to reach only some of its base camps. This way, it is possible to experience part of the climbing route without having to complete it. It is worth mentioning that both the summit climb and the different trekking options have certain requirements and require obtaining authorization to take part in them. In addition, depending on the option chosen, the level of difficulty and the physical condition required can vary completely.

The mountain can be seen surrounded by an impressive landscape where lagoons, glaciers and valleys typical of the mountain environment can also be found. It is also common to see native wildlife including different species of birds, mammals and reptiles, since it is a protected natural area.

Aconcagua is undoubtedly an icon and a must-see destination at both the national and international level.
