Information

The Aconcagua Provincial Park offers different short and long trekking options, which are excellent alternatives for those who want to know and experience Aconcagua without making the complete ascent.

Although it does not require the same preparation as to reach the summit, in all cases it is necessary to be in good physical condition and in good health. It is also recommended to plan the visit in terms of information, either to know the schedules, necessary equipment, symptoms of problems with the altitude, etc.

There are several options in terms of duration in days and length/height of the route. There are even alternatives starting from the Horcones entrance, and others starting from the Punta de Vacas entrance. Depending on the trekking you choose, there are different requirements regarding the equipment to carry, and recommendations to do it with or without a guide. In all cases, you need to pay for a ticket and obtain a permit, which when I did it I had to obtain by going to the park office in the city of Mendoza (capital of the province). Always carry extra money because at the base camps the services (food, drinks, tents, toilets, etc.) are paid for.

They all consist of getting to the different base camps on the mountain. For example, in the short trekking of 1 day leaving from Horcones you will reach the Confluencia base camp, while in the 3-day trekking you will get to know the Confluencia and Plaza Francia base camps.
