Information

This park is a good place to observe the fauna of the region. It has beach areas, trails and vehicular roads that make it possible to walk around and appreciate its species.

Among the reptiles, a common and characteristic species of this region is the Atacamen Pacific iguana (Microlophus atacamensis). Moving on to the mammals, the guanaco (Lama guanicoe) and the chilla (Lycalopex griseus, a fox) are easy to spot.

The beaches with their rocks show us many coastal birds, of which the grey plover (Pluvialis squatarola), snowy plover (Charadrius nivosus), seaside cinclodes (Cinclodes nigrofumosus) are abundant, kelp gull (Larus dominicanus), grey gull (Larus modestus), Belcher's gull (Larus belcheri), surfbird (Calidris virgata), black skimmer (Rynchops niger) and whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus). A species of interest and common sighting is the guanay cormorant (Leucocarbo bougainvilliorum), which is threatened with extinction.

On the island of Pan de Azúcar, which is accessible by boat trips offered within the park during the high season, you can observe the Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti).
