Information
It is a city in the Los Lagos region of Chile, located about 16 km from Puerto Montt. It has a variety of services for visitors such as shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, ATMs and petrol station.
It is situated on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. It has a pedestrian path that runs along its waterfront with viewpoints, piers, tourist information office and beach access.
Buses leave from Puerto Varas to the different tourist attractions of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, such as the Ensenada, Petrohué and Saltos del Petrohué sectors. If you have a car you can go to these places by the paved Route 225.
To get to Puerto Varas:
- By bus: it has more than one terminal or bus stop, depending on the transport company. They come from Ancud, Castro, Concepción, Frutillar, Osorno, Santiago, Temuco, Valdivia, Valparaíso and several other places. At all times they come and go from Puerto Montt.
- By car: taking Gramado Avenue from the centre of Puerto Varas, 2 km away you will find the asphalted Route 5 that connects the city with destinations in the country such as Puerto Montt (19 km), Frutillar (27 km), Osorno (91 km), Temuco (336 km) and Santiago (1015 km).
- By plane: the nearest airport is El Tepual in Puerto Montt, where direct flights arrive from Santiago and possibly (to be confirmed) from Puerto Natales, Punta Arenas and Balmaceda airport.
