The city of San Rafael can be reached by various means of transport:
1. By bus: it has a bus terminal where public transportation arrives from other places of the Province, such as Mendoza City, General Alvear, Las Leñas and Malargüe. And also from cities of the rest of the country such as Buenos Aires (Liniers and Retiro terminals), Córdoba, Mar del Plata, Neuquén, San Carlos de Bariloche, San Juan, San Luis, etc.
2. By car: the city is crossed by several routes coming from different parts of the country:
- National Route 143: if you take it leaving the city heading northwest, then it intersects National Route 40 which leads to the city of Mendoza. On the other hand, if you take it leaving San Rafael towards the southeast, it leads to General Alvear, where it intercepts Route 188 that goes to the province of Buenos Aires.
- National Route 144: it goes southwest and intercepts National Route 40, which goes south to Malargüe.
- National Route 146: in northeast direction leads to the city of San Luis.
3. By plane: the international airport Suboficial Ayudante Santiago Germano is located 7 kilometres away from the city. Direct flights arrive from Buenos Aires and with stopovers from many other places.
