Wildlife Watching in Marino Ballena National Park

The Marino Ballena National Park is ideal for the observation of coastal and marine fauna. On the one hand, within its limits it includes a portion of sea and a portion of land with long beaches. In addition, it has facilities for the visitor such as 4 sectors to enter, trails and snorkelling sites.

One of the great attractions is whale watching, since at the entrance of the Uvita sector there are posts that offer boat trips to observe them closely. Dolphins can be found all year round, while the best time for humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) is between August and October (and in smaller numbers in January and February).

The Whale's Tail area is frequented by a large number of shorebirds. Note that many are migratory and are only seen during the winter (between November and May, although it depends on the species). Examples of these migrants are the least sandpiper (Calidris minutilla), black tern (Chlidonias niger), sandwich tern (Thalasseus sandvicensis), royal tern (Thalasseus maximus), etc.

A large number of land birds, mammals and reptiles typical of the Pacific region can also be seen.
