Petrohué

Information

This is a sector of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, at the head of which is the source of the Petrohué River in the Lake Todos los Santos. It is precisely in this place that there is a small port where boats leave to visit the lake and/or to reach another sector of the park called Peulla.

It is a natural site, with an extensive beach of volcanic sand on the lake. There is a cafeteria, camping site (open from December to March) and toilets.

There are also trails that allow you to appreciate and walk through the mountain range environments:
- Paso Desolación trail: it is a long hike of high difficulty, only for people in good physical condition because there are sectors with unevenness. It is about 13 km long and takes about 5 hours one way (10 hours round trip). My recommendation is to start early in the morning, and take plenty of water, some food, sunscreen and a coat and raincoat in case the weather changes. The trail starts in the vicinity of the Petrohué harbour and reaches the slopes of the Osorno volcano. It crosses different areas of forest and volcanic sand, and in some sections it has excellent views of Lake Todos los Santos.

To get to Petrohué, there is public transport from Puerto Varas that leaves right at the place. If you go by car it is 61 km from Puerto Varas on Route 225.
