Information
The islands of the Salar de Uyuni are rocky outcrops with vegetation that you can see when you visit the salt flat. There are some large ones such as Pescado Island and Incahuasi Island, where you can appreciate their irregular relief and large number of cacti. It is undoubtedly a great attraction, given the great visual impact they represent in the middle of a large and completely white expanse.
The Incahuasi Island is very popular with tourists who usually arrive with the typical excursions to Uyuni. This island has a recreational area, with a picnic area and toilets. It also has a path to walk around it and take panoramic photographs of the salt flat from above.
As for the birds that can be seen there, two common species are the greenish yellow-finch (Sicalis olivascens) and the black-hooded sierra-finch (Phrygilus atriceps).
Excursions to the islands can be arranged in the town of Uyuni, where several agencies offer them. They depart from the small village of Colchani.
