Uyuni Salt Flat

Information

It is a 10600 km² salt flat, making it the largest in the world. It is so vast that it can be easily distinguished on any map as a huge white spot in the southwest of Bolivia. It belongs to the department of Potosí and is located in the middle of the altiplano at an altitude of more than 3600 metres above sea level.

It is one of the most visited destinations in the country, as a large number of national and foreign tourists come to visit it. In addition to its salt surface, you can see sculptures, hotels and restaurants entirely built with this material. And with the excursions that go into the salt flat you can visit some of its islands, undoubtedly a great attraction for being in the middle of this white desert.

The small village of Colchani, located on its shores, has basic shops, handicraft shops and museums, and is where most of the excursions enter. And the town of Uyuni is where tourists usually stay, as it has services such as hotels, restaurants, a variety of shops and many agencies offering excursions.
