It is a village in the Bolivian department of Potosí, located on the edge of the Uyuni salt flat. It is about 22 km from the town that bears its name (Uyuni), linked by the paved Route 30.
It has some basic shops, handicraft shops and a couple of lodgings. It is the gateway for excursions to the salt flat. For this reason, during the day it is common to find many tourists who stop for a walk around the village before starting their tour of Uyuni.
Its streets are made of dirt and salt, with a main square, a railway station and a small church. On the main street, in the centre of a roundabout is the Museo de la Llama y la Sal (a museum), where you can see large pieces and figures made of this material.
