The National Route 4 crosses the national park. From this road there is an access road that leads to the village of Sajama (where there is accommodation and trails to explore the park) and to Tomarapi (where there is accommodation). To get there:
1. By bus:
- Public transport from La Paz to Arica runs along Route 4, but from this route to the village of Sajama is 11km.
- A better option is to first take a bus from La Paz or Oruro to the town of Patacamaya, and then another bus from Patacamaya that leaves right at the village of Sajama.
2. By car:
- First of all, take into account that the park is at 4200 metres above sea level, which means that during the night and early morning the temperatures are usually very low and it can be difficult to start the cars. For this reason, it is recommended to ask if the vehicle would need a special antifreeze for its cooling liquid.
- To get there, take the paved National Route 4 that connects Patacamaya-Tambo Quemado. From this route you take the 11 km dirt road that leads to the village of Sajama, and if you continue along this road for another 19 km you will arrive at Tomarapi.
