Birdwatching in Coroico

The town of Coroico in the department of La Paz, Bolivia, is placed in the Yungas, an ecoregion of high biodiversity. For this reason, it is not unusual to observe a large number of wildlife species, despite the fact that it is an inhabited area. So much so, that it usually takes a couple of days to record a good number of birds, for example, even in the immediate vicinity of the village or in the gardens of a hotel. It is worth mentioning that the village also has accommodation, restaurants and services for those who want to visit it for these activities.

One species that is abundant and seen everywhere is the speckled chachalaca (Ortalis guttata). Others that are easily and frequently seen are, to mention a few, the mitred parakeet (Psittacara mitratus), the sparkling violetear (Colibri coruscans), the purplish jay (Cyanocorax cyanomelas) and the Yungas dove (Leptotila megalura).
