Antofalla

Information

It is a village situated in the heart of the Puna Catamarqueña, in the Andean region of western Argentina. It is located at more than 3800 metres above sea level, practically at the foot of the homonymous volcano (Antofalla) and at the edge of the vast Antofalla salt flat. The environment is entirely wild and untouched, with a landscape of striking and singular beauty. Its isolation is, to a large extent, its main attraction.

When you reach the village, on one of the nearby hills you will see a gigantic legend with the words "Welcome to Antofalla". At one end of the settlement stands a picturesque chapel. It is worth mentioning that it is a community of small population with some basic services such as lodging and small grocery shops. Electricity is provided by a generator that only works for a few hours at sunset.

The access from Antofagasta de la Sierra implies travelling 87 kilometres along a track that crosses impressive landscapes. It is important to note that the journey requires a 4x4 vehicle and must be accompanied by a licensed guide. In its final stretch, the road crosses the salt flat and offers an unforgettable experience.
