Manzano Histórico

Information

It is a tourist locality of the Uco Valley in the province of Mendoza. Its name is due to an apple tree that was in the place and where José de San Martín rested on his way back from a trip.

It has lodgings, grocery shops and restaurants. There is a municipal camping site divided into three sectors, which during long weekends or the high summer season (January and February) is usually very crowded.

The visitor centre of the Manzano Histórico Nature Reserve, which is a protected area of about 1100 hectares (recently expanded), is right in the middle of the village. There is a tourist information office and the Muestra Sanmartiniana Museum (with several rooms) and the Natural Science Museum (with one room). About 100 metres away is the Retorno a la Patria monument with its steps. Going up the steps, on the right side of the monument there is a path called 'Sanmartiniano' of medium difficulty (it is all uphill and takes 1 hour round trip) that has 3 viewpoints with panoramic views.

Other attractions are the Christ located at the junction of Routes 89 and 94, and an offshoot of the original historical apple tree that was destroyed by a flood in 1947. On the other hand, if you take Route 94 towards the Andes Mountains for about 2,500 metres you will reach Paso de los Puntanos, where there is a crystal clear water site on the Grande Stream and a low difficulty trail to get to know the area.

The village of Manzano Histórico can be reached by asphalt about 39 kilometres from Tunuyán or 47 kilometres from the locality of San Carlos through Routes 92 and 94. There is a bus that comes from Tunuyán.
