Chos Malal

Information

It is the most populated city in the north of the province of Neuquén. It has a tourist information office, petrol station, supermarkets, restaurants and lodgings. There is a municipal camping site.

The city has a pedestrian path along the Curi Leuvú River. On this way you can see and climb some stairs up to El Torreón, which is a tower on a hill. The Manuel José Olascoaga Museum, with historical exhibits, is also located here.

There are other tourist sites to visit nearby. The access to the Tromen Provincial Park is only 8.5 km away (the beginning of the protected area is 32 km away in total) and the access to the Lagunas de Epu Lauquen is 93 km away (the lakes are 126 km away in total). In both cases there are stretches of gravel road.

To get to Chos Malal:
- By bus: there is direct public transport from Las Lajas, Neuquén and Zapala.
- By car: you can get there by National Route 40, which is 215 km paved from Zapala and 335 km from Malargüe (part of this stretch of Route 40 is gravel road).
