Gualeguay

Information

It is a city located in the south of Entre Ríos Province, on the banks of the river that shares its name (Gualeguay). It has a tourist information office, a petrol station, shops, accommodations and restaurants. It is one of the main cities in the province where Carnival is celebrated, between January and March, although the exact dates may vary from one year to another. The "corsódromo" (Carnival parade venue) is located next to the old railway station, which currently houses a museum.

From the south of the urban area, the banks of the Gualeguay River can be reached from Tratado del Pilar Boulevard or from National Route 12. The river currently forms two branches and a fairly complex system:
— Immediately south of the city is the river's former channel, which currently serves as a reservoir. Intendente Quintana Park is located along its northern bank, while on its southern bank there is a huge embankment that today forms the "Costanera de Gualeguay". Both sides can be explored by vehicle along paved roads, as well as on foot or by bicycle. They have extensive green spaces, tree shade, tables, chairs and barbecue grills. Without a doubt, it is an excellent recreational area for walking near the river and spending a day having a picnic outdoors.
— If you travel farther south, toward the end of the embankment you reach the current main branch of the Gualeguay River. Even farther south, there is an extensive area of lowlands and marshes which, depending on the water level, can look like a huge flooded area.

How to get to the city:
— By bus: it has a bus terminal with parking, a tourist information office, restrooms and a café, where public transportation services arrive from the cities of Bella Vista, Buenos Aires, Colón, Concepción del Uruguay, Concordia, Esquina, Goya, Gualeguaychú, La Paz, Larroque, Paraná, San José and Victoria.
— By car: Provincial Route 11 connects it with Diamante, Paraná and Victoria. Provincial Route 16 connects it with Gualeguaychú and from there with other towns along the coast of the Uruguay River. National Route 12, which crosses south of the Zárate-Brazo Largo Bridge, allows access from the city of Buenos Aires.
