Laguna de Lobos

Information

It is a laguna (a type of inland lake) located 16 km from the town of Lobos and 105 km from the city of Buenos Aires. It occupies some 800 hectares, and has a depth of less than 2 metres, which varies according to the time of the year. Its tributary is the Las Garzas Stream and it empties its waters through a floodgate into the Saladillo-Rodriguez Stream. On its banks there is a village called Villa Logüercio.

You can walk along its municipal waterfront, which has a path and seats in front of the shore. It has a picnic area with cement tables and benches, public toilets, a tourist information office and an artisans' fair. In front of the body of water there are supermarkets and restaurants. In another part there are private campsites where boats can be rented and there are boat ramps.

For birdwatchers it is a good place to record aquatic species such as the roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja), the Chilean flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis), the grey-headed gull (Larus cirrocephalus), the black-headed duck (Heteronetta atricapilla) and the pectoral sandpiper (Calidris melanotos).

How to get to Laguna de Lobos:
- By bus: there are buses from Lobos and Salvador María.
- By car from the city of Buenos Aires: take the Tte. Gral. Riccheri highway, then the Ezeiza-Cañuelas highway and finally Route 205 until you reach the access to the laguna. There are 105 km in total, completely asphalted.
- By car from Lobos: you arrive by route 205, 16 km paved.
- By train and bus: every day there are trains from Cañuelas and Merlo that leave at the locality of Lobos. From there you must take a bus to the laguna.
