Information

Cuesta del Viento is a dam located in the province of San Juan, about 8 km from the town of Rodeo. Its tributaries are the Blanco and Iglesia rivers, and the Jáchal River, one of the most important in the province, originates there.

It is a major attraction for tourists visiting the region. The body of water is surrounded by a mountainous and arid landscape, forming a unique setting due to the different geological shapes found in the area. The earth's tones and the silhouettes of the mountains create a postcard-like view that changes depending on the time of day.

National Route 150, which is paved, partially circles the southern and southeastern sides of the reservoir, where there are perfect viewpoints to admire the landscape from above and take souvenir photos. This road also reaches and crosses the massive dam wall. In addition, there is an area known as Templos del Viento with striking rock formations that can be seen up close.

Water sports are practiced in the reservoir. It experiences very strong winds, making it ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing, and events and competitions for these activities are sometimes held.

Access is via paved National Route 150, with 8 km from Rodeo and 36 km from San José de Jáchal. In nearby Rodeo there are some shops and accommodation options, making it easier to visit this unique corner of San Juan.
