Cerro Mercedario

Information

The Cerro Mercedario is a peak in the Andes Mountains, which at 6720 metres above sea level is the highest summit in the province of San Juan and the fourth highest in the entire American continent. The massif has several peaks, where the Mercedario is the highest (the one with 6720 metres above sea level) and there are others somewhat lower, such as the Pico Polaco and Alma Negra.

It can be seen from different points on the Chilean side, and from the province of San Juan on the Argentinean side. One way to see it easily and with an excellent view is from the Pampa del Leoncito, where you have a flat desert with the snow-capped Mercedario as part of the mountain range in the background, and you can see the main peak with the Pico Polaco on the left.
