Museums in the City of Santa Fe

Information

The city of Santa Fe, capital of the homonymous province, has several museums that can be visited and are one of the great attractions of the city:

1. Museo etnográfico y colonial Juan de Garay (Juan de Garay Ethnographic and Colonial Museum): original explanatory panels and pieces are exhibited in chronological order starting with the original peoples of the Goya-Malabrigo culture, then with Mocoví and Toba, to continue with the arrival of the Spaniards and the colonial city of Santa Fe La Vieja.

2. Museo histórico provincial de Santa Fe (Provincial Historical Museum of Santa Fe): it is located in a house that was built in the 17th century and was modified over time. It exhibits explanatory plates, costumes, furniture, paintings and documents.

3. Museo franciscano y convento San Francisco (Franciscan Museum and San Francisco Convent): it is a temple that dates from the 17th century (the time when the city of Santa Fe was moved to where it is nowadays). It has the real story of a tragedy that took place in 1825, where during a great flood a jaguar arrived on vegetation and after entering through a window caused the death of three priests. In the museum that operates in the place today you can see a table with two scratches of the feline and a painting representing the attack of the animal.

4. Casa museo del Brigadier General Estanislao López (House Museum of Brigadier General Estanislao López): it was the home of the man who was the leader and governor of the province for 20 years. He lived there from the time he married María Josefa del Pilar Rodríguez del Fresno in 1819 until the day of his death in 1838. There are exhibitions about the customs of the time and about the life of Estanislao López and his wife.

The first three are by the Plaza de las Tres Culturas (a square), while the fourth one is located one block away from the Plaza 25 de Mayo (another square).
