Cayastá

Information

Cayastá is a village in the east-central part of Santa Fe Province, located about 77 km from the provincial capital (the city of Santa Fe). It lies on the banks of the San Javier River, which originates in the northern part of the province as a branch of the Paraná River, and near Cayastá it flows through an extensive wetland made up of islands, small islets, streams and lakes.

The village has some basic services including an ATM, grocery stores, restaurants and accommodation options. There is also a petrol station on the outskirts.

You can visit the main square, with a chapel located just across from it. From there, you can walk toward the river and take a stroll along the waterfront, where there is a staircase leading down to a path along the riverbank. At the end, you will find a green area open for daytime use, with shade and restrooms. From the waterfront, you can enjoy views of the extensive wetland across the river, with its islands and waterways.

Without a doubt, one of the village's must-see attractions is the Santa Fe La Vieja Archaeological Park, located on the outskirts. This is the original site where Juan de Garay founded the city of Santa Fe, which was later moved to its current location. Visitors can explore the ruins and tour its museum.
