Piedra del Águila

Information

It is a town in the southeast of the Argentinean province of Neuquén. It is located on National Route 237, about 203 km from San Carlos de Bariloche and 220 km from the city of Neuquén.

It is a typical stopping place for tourists on their way to the major tourist centres and Andean national parks. The town has shops, food stalls and lodgings around road 237 and its main square. It has a tourist information office, ATM and petrol station.

On one side run some low elevations that look like clods of soil with different geological shapes. There is a municipal camping site in the middle of these geoforms with tables, chairs and cement barbecues. Nearby is the Piedra del Águila monument, which is a sculpture of an eagle on the top of a hill. Another attraction to visit is its archaeological museum to see samples and learn about the origins of the locality.

If you take a road heading east and drive about 4.2 km you will reach a crystal clear body of water that is an arm of one of the reservoirs formed by the Limay River. There are camping sites and different spots with breathtaking views of the lake.

To get to Piedra del Aguila by public transportation, there is a bus terminal where vehicles arrive from the cities of Bariloche, Buenos Aires, Córdoba, El Bolsón, Esquel and Mar del Plata.
