Pucatrihue

Information

It is a Chilean town in the Los Lagos region, located about 8 km from Bahía Mansa, 10 km from Maicolpue and 59 km from Osorno. It is very popular with tourists, especially during the high season in January and February. It has accommodation, campsite, grocery shops and restaurants.

It is situated where the Llesquehue River (also called Choroy-Traiguén) flows into the Pacific Ocean coast, forming an estuary whose seawater inflow increases or decreases according to the tide, and where there are dunes and beaches on both the river and sea sides. About 200 metres away there is a vehicular bridge from where you can see the scenery of this site. Then the beach continues to the north, where it is long and wide.

Coming from Bahía Mansa, a little before reaching the estuary, you can see some islets from the road. One of them has an opening/portal which is called Piedra Abuelito Huenteao, and another has a colony of Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldti). From the harbour of the nearby town Bahía Mansa they offer excursions to see this place by boat.

To get to Pucatrihue:
- From Bahía Mansa: take Route U-40 for 1.7 km and there take Route U-300 for 6 km to Pucatrihue. The whole route is asphalted.
- From Osorno: take Route U-40 for 53-54 km until a fork where you take Route U-300 to Pucatrihue.
- There are buses coming from Bahía Mansa and Osorno.
