Valdivia

Information

It is the capital and most populated city of the Los Ríos region of Chile. It has the name of the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, who founded it in 1552.

It is in an area crossed by waterways and surrounded by islands, islets and wetlands. Within the city limits, the Cau Cau River (coming from the north) flows into the meandering Calle Calle to give the Valdivia River, which in turn receives the Cruces River as a tributary on the west side of the city. There are several bridges connecting the urban area and its surroundings.

It has services for visitors such as restaurants, supermarkets, banks and petrol stations. Accommodation is available in different price ranges.

You can walk along its waterfront along Arturo Prat Avenue, particularly around the Pedro de Valdivia Bridge, where there is a river fair and the municipal market where you can buy local products. From there you will be close to the city centre and also to the Torreón de los Canelos, built in the 17th century. On Teja Island, which can be reached by crossing a bridge, is the Saval Park where you can spend an afternoon outdoors, as it has wooden tables and benches, two lagoons and children's playgrounds.

Outside the city, there are other nearby attractions such as beaches, castles and boat trips. Particularly worth mentioning are destinations such as Niebla, Los Molinos and Corral, which are easy to reach and have tourist infrastructure.

Regarding the weather or when to go, although rainfall occurs all year round, it rains less on average in summer (December to March) and temperatures are more suitable to enjoy the beach activities along the shore.
