Niebla

Information

It is a town in the Los Ríos region of Chile. It is about 16 km from Valdivia, on the coast of Corral Bay where the Valdivia River flows into the sea.

It has infrastructure to receive tourists such as cabins, restaurants and grocery shops. It is common to find some of the so-called 'ferias costumbristas' (traditional fair), which have food stalls and a stage where music is played.

It has a main beach of dark sand called Playa Grande (Grande Beach), which has a public access and in the warm summer months (mainly January and February) it fills up with people. There is another smaller beach called Playa Chica (Chica Beach), with a car park and also with public access. In addition, from Niebla you can take the asphalted Route T-352 to the north, which turns out to be the so-called Ruta del Mar (Sea Route) that leads to other beaches.

A great attraction is undoubtedly the Castle of Niebla, which belongs to the fort system of Valdivia that the Spaniards built in colonial times to protect themselves from attacks. It is easy to access as it is located in the middle of the town. Other fortifications can also be visited, as a short boat trip from the Niebla passenger terminal/pier will take you to Mancera Island and Corral, which have other castles.

How to get to Niebla:
- By bus: there is public transport from Valdivia, and also from destinations along the Ruta del Mar, such as San Ignacio, Curiñanco and intermediate points.
- By car: the asphalted Route T-350 connects from the east with the city of Valdivia, and the T-352 from the north with different towns and seaside sites such as Los Molinos, San Ignacio, La Misión, etc.
- By boat: they come and go from Mancera Island and the town of Corral.
