Mar del Plata is a big city, which has different means of transport that can be accessed from different parts of the country:
1. By bus: direct public transport arrive to its bus terminal from many places. For instance, there are buses from the cities of Bahía Blanca, Córdoba, Mendoza, Paraná, Rosario, San Miguel de Tucumán, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero, Tandil and several points of the Greater Buenos Aires. It also has public transport that runs along the Atlantic coast and allows you to get there from other destinations. It is normal that during the high season of January and February the frequency is increased and buses from more localities are added.
2. By car: the city is reached and crossed by different asphalted routes that serve to communicate it with the rest of the country. The ones that connect directly are:
- Provincial Route 2: it is the fastest and most used to go from Greater Buenos Aires. During the weekends of January and February it is usual to find delays due to the large amount of vehicles.
- National Route 226: it connects with the nearby Laguna de los Padres and Sierra de los Padres, and also with Tandil and Olavarría.
- Provincial Route 88: it connects with Necochea and Quequén.
- Provincial Route 11: it allows arriving from La Plata, and it is also the one that connects Mar del Plata with the seaside destinations of Partido de La Costa (such as San Clemente del Tuyú, Santa Teresita, Mar del Tuyú, San Bernardo and Mar de Ajó), Pinamar, Villa Gesell and to the south with Miramar.
3. By plane: flights arrive every day from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery airport in Buenos Aires. There are also direct flights from Córdoba, Mendoza and Tucumán, but only some days of the week (confirm frequencies and destinations, as they may vary).
4. By train: there are trains from the city of Buenos Aires (Plaza Constitución station) to Mar del Plata. It is worth mentioning that on busy tourist dates tickets sell out quickly, so it is convenient to buy them as early as possible.
