Beaches of Mar del Plata

The city of Mar del Plata is located on the shores of the Argentine sea, on the Atlantic Ocean. One of its great attractions is undoubtedly its beaches, which are full of tourists that come to bathe in the hot months (mainly January and February). All of them are surrounded by neighbourhoods with plenty of vacation rentals.

To get an idea of the length and number of beaches that this city has, if we take the distance from almost its southern limit to the beginning of Camet Park to the north, there are almost 25 kilometres of beaches one after the other, interrupted only in the area of the port or a short stretch with cliffs. All this distance can be travelled along what would be Provincial Route 11, which runs close and parallel to the coast, and which takes on different names of avenues as it crosses the urban area.

The beaches have descents to access them and the city has different bus lines that allow you to get there. If you go by car, you have to take into account that in high season it can sometimes be difficult to find a parking space.

As you visit them, you will find that they vary greatly in their characteristics. In the city centre and nearby areas, where beaches such as Bristol, La Perla or Varese are located, you will notice that they are surrounded by commercial areas and neighbourhoods with tall buildings. On the contrary, if you go southwards past the port, in Punta Mogotes there are wide green spaces with lagoons that separate the beaches from the residential area, which has lower buildings.
