Information

It is a locality in the province of Salta in Argentina, located at the foot of the Nevado de Cachi, where the Cachi or Las Trancas River flows into the Calchaquí River. It is located in the Valles Calchaquíes (Calchaquí Valley).

It has infrastructure for those who visit it, such as lodgings of different prices, restaurants, grocery shops and stalls selling handicrafts. It has a tourist information office, an ATM and a petrol station.

It is very popular with tourists, who come to visit the surroundings of the main square 9 de Julio, which has a colonial aspect. The Museo Arqueológico Pío Pablo Díaz (an archaeological museum), which exhibits material including original pieces such as petroglyphs, mortars, vessels, etc., as well as explanatory posters, is located nearby.

At approximately 1.5 km from the plaza is the archaeological site of El Tero, which are ruins dating back to 1500 A.D. that correspond to the Diaguita-Calchaquí culture with Inca influence. The remains of enclosures can be seen, including a burial place and a silo, for example, and there is an interpretation centre at one side of the area.

Cachi is also in an ideal place to visit other outstanding attractions in the province, such as the Los Cardones National Park, 28 km away, and the Angastaco Nature Reserve (where the 'Quebrada de las Flechas' ravine is located), 86 km away.
