Information

It is a locality in the province of Catamarca in Argentina, located about 10 km from the neighbouring town of Ancasti and 73 km from the provincial capital San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. It is in a low mountainous area on the eastern slope of the Sierra de Ancasti (a mountain chain belonging to the so-called Sierras Pampeanas mountains).

It has services such as some basic shops, restaurant, lodging, tourist information office and there is even a municipal camping site. The Albigasta River crosses the town, surrounded by green spaces ideal for an afternoon picnic. There is a Way of the Cross that leads to a grotto at the top, from where there is a good panoramic view of the town and its surroundings.

You can also visit the Ipizca Dam, which can be reached by a 9 km drive along the dirt Provincial Route 15 (there may be potholes). It is in the middle of a wild and quiet area, normally with few visitors. You can see its high wall and reservoir from one side and from the other.

Anquincila is reached by Provincial Route 2. This road connects to the northwest with National Route 38, which crosses the Cuesta de Portezuelo (a slope) and reaches San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. And to the east it leads to National Route 157, which leads to the Provinces of Córdoba, Santiago del Estero and Tucumán.
