Chichén Itzá is located in the state of Yucatán, within the peninsula of the same name. It receives a great number of visitors, most of them coming from its major tourist centres. The main means of transport by which it can be reached are:
1. Bus: there is public transport coming from the terminals of Cancún (about 3 hours of trip), Mérida (2 hours), Playa del Carmen (4 hours) and Tulum (2.5 hours).
2. Car: Chichén Itzá is connected by paved road to Cancún, Mérida, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Valladolid and many other cities. Take into account that in some cases there is the option to go by paid route (faster) or by free route (without paying but slower).
It is worth mentioning that many people arrive to this archaeological zone with excursions offered in the different tourist centres of the region.
