The department of Itapúa can be reached by different means of transport and access routes:
1. By car from Argentina: there are 2 border crossings with bridges from Argentina to Itapúa. One is the one that links Posadas-Encarnación, which can be very congested on certain days or hours. The other is the new one inaugurated in 2019, which passes over Yacyretá and links Ituzaingó-Ayolas (confirm if they allow private cars to pass).
2. By car from other destinations in Paraguay:
- Route 1 links Itapúa with the west of the country, and is the road from Asunción.
- Route 8 provides access from destinations in central Paraguay.
- Route 6 is the access road from Ciudad del Este.
3. By plane: the Teniente Amín Ayub González International Airport in Encarnación can be reached by (confirmed) direct flights from Asunción.
