Itapúa

It is a department located in the extreme southeast of Paraguay. Both the south and the east of its territory border Argentina, from which it is separated by the Paraná River.

This department has Jesuit reductions that are still preserved today. There is the one of the Santísima Trinidad del Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangüé near the locality of Trinidad, and the one of San Cosme y Damián in the town that bears its name. All three can be visited to appreciate the structures they still have.

Along its long shoreline on the Paraná River there are several localities that have beaches. Such is the case of Ayolas, Carmen del Paraná, Encarnación and San Cosme y Damián.

On the other hand, within its limits is part of a protected area, the San Rafael Reserve, where a good number of species are registered.

Regarding the climate, take into account that in summer (December to March) there can be very hot days. Temperatures in winter (June to September) are on average lower than in summer. Regarding rainfall, it is a humid climate and rainfall is spread throughout the year, there is no markedly dry season.
