San Cosme y Damián

Information

It is a locality of the department of Itapúa that is located on the north bank of the Paraná River, 88 km from Encarnación. It has a tourist information office, accommodation, supermarkets and places to eat.

It has several sites to visit:
- Undoubtedly a great attraction is the Jesuit Guaraní mission of San Cosme y Damián, which is located in the middle of the town. It is in front of the main square and 150 metres from the tourist information office where you pay the entrance ticket. Next to this same office there is an astronomical interpretation centre.
- In the locality there is a beach with a recreational arez on the shore of the Paraná River, which has a reddish-coloured beach with parasols.
- If you take the street Carmelo Peralta in an easterly direction, after 6 km on a dirt road you will find the Yacyretá Arroyo Aguapey II Private Nature Reserve. There is a viewpoint and an interpretative trail (ask the park ranger if it is enabled) along the shores of the Paraná River.

To get to San Cosme y Damián:
- There is a bus from Encarnación.
- To come from Encarnación by car, you drive 49 km along Route 1 to General Bogado, and then 12 km further to a fork in the road. From there you take a new asphalted road on the left, which after 27 km takes you to San Cosme y Damián.
- If you are coming from Asunción by car, it is 328 km on a combination of asphalted roads.
