Information
It is one of the so-called Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns), located in the state of Morelos. It is 80 km from Mexico City and 20 km from Cuernavaca.
Tepoztlán has ATM, accommodation and many handicraft shops. It also has markets and street stalls serving traditional dishes of the region. A typical food is the 'itacate', which is a triangle made of corn with cheese inside.
In this town you can visit the ex-convent of the Nativity, built during the 16th century.
The archaeological site called El Tepozteco is very close, which can be reached by walking 1.7 km from the centre of the town. Take into account that it is a steep uphill walk, recommended only for people in good physical condition, and it is advisable to wear appropriate footwear and carry water.
To get to Tepoztlán, there are direct buses from Mexico City (Central del Sur/Taxqueña terminal) and Cuernavaca. There is also public transport from different nearby towns in the state of Morelos.
