Information
It is an archaeological site in the state of Morelos, which is located on a mountain surrounding the town of Tepoztlán. It is within the boundaries of a large protected area called El Tepozteco National Park.
This site was a settlement built between 1150 AD and 1350 AD. Among the structures is the pyramid of El Tepozteco, erected in honour of one of its gods.
To visit it, from the centre of Tepoztlán to where the temple of the archaeological site is located, you have to walk a total of 1.7 kilometres on a steep uphill path, so it is only recommended for people in good physical condition. In addition, it is advisable to wear suitable footwear and carry enough water. To get there, from the main square of Tepoztlán, take the street 5 de Mayo to the north, which is renamed Del Tepozteco. This street then becomes an uphill pedestrian path with steps.
To get to Tepoztlán there are buses from Mexico City (Central del Sur or Taxqueña bus station), Cuernavaca and also from nearby towns in the state of Morelos.
