Chaviyú Forest Reserve

Information

It is a forest reserve located in the eastern part of Entre Ríos Province, about 12 km from the city of Federación. It is situated on the shores of the reservoir created by the Salto Grande Dam, built on the Uruguay River.

To get there from downtown Federación, you have to cross the bridge located on one side of the town along Sixto Ríos Avenue, which leads toward the old Federación, now submerged beneath the waters of the reservoir. After that, you follow the signs along the road, although my recommendation is to use a GPS because there are several forks before reaching the protected area and it is easy to take the wrong turn.

It has an extensive shoreline along the lake, with pebble beaches that normally have calm and clear waters. Within its boundaries there is one area with a stand of eucalyptus trees, which is an introduced species, while another separate area preserves native vegetation. Wooden boardwalks have been built that allow visitors to explore part of the reserve and lead to a lookout point, from where you get an excellent view of the water and can take some very good photographs.

In general, the place is very peaceful and does not usually receive too many visitors. Even during the peak of the hot season the number of tourists is moderate, making it a pleasant place to explore at a leisurely pace and enjoy the surroundings. Keep in mind that there are no services of any kind, so you need to bring everything you may need, such as drinks, food and any other items that might be necessary during your visit.
