Punta Rasa Nature Reserve

Information

It is a natural reserve placed at the northern end of the Atlantic coast of the Province of Buenos Aires, more precisely at one side of the locality of San Clemente del Tuyú. Geographically it is a point, and it is considered the southern limit of the Río de la Plata, that is to say, the place where the waters of the river and the ocean meet. It is a wetland formed by low sandy lands with depressions and rias (like a narrow and long inlet), which flood or dry up depending on the high or low tide.

There is no campsite and no facilities. The services are in San Clemente. So it is advisable to take food, drinks and sunscreen with you. Personally I recommend to bring mosquito repellent, as there are sometimes a lot of those insects.

To get there from the centre of San Clemente, take Avenida Costanera and then Avenida IX northwards, or Avenida Naval also northwards. In both cases you reach a roundabout, from where a dirt road leads to Punta Rasa. Follow this road for about 2 km, where a road opens up on the right, which is the entrance to the reserve.

From this entrance of Punta Rasa, there is an internal road of 4 or 5 kilometres to the beach. On this route there is a bird lookout point and a bridge where you can see crabs. You can also observe many birds of the area.

IMPORTANT: Please note that there are days when, depending on the weather and wind, this path can be flooded at high tide and become impassable. So it is always advisable to check the tide times and the state of the road to avoid being cut off.

Regarding the beach, it is one of the best places in the country to see coastal birds such as seagulls, terns and sandpipers.
