Beach and Ruins in El Palmar National Park

El Palmar National Park has an area with a beach and a historical site.

To get to this place, from the access to the park by National Route 14, you take the main road. After passing through several accesses to trails, at kilometre 10.5 you reach a fork in the road. There you take the right.

After another 1 kilometre you reach a car park. Right there is a historical site called Calera del Palmar, whose origins date back to the Jesuit period in the 17th century. The lime kiln went through different periods of use and abandonment, and was used to produce lime for construction and to peel hides.

From these ruins there is a short path of about 50 metres that leads to a good beach on the Uruguay River. You should ask the park rangers if there is a lifeguard service and if it is suitable for bathing.

Also from the historical site there is another trail of about 1 kilometre, which ends in the area where the visitor centre and camping site of the park are located. This trail runs parallel to the shore, and goes through a gallery forest environment with excellent views of the river.
