Punta Loma Nature Reserve

Information

It is a natural protected area situated on the coast of the Nuevo Gulf, 16 km from Puerto Madryn.

There are South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens), which are located on a beach with large cliffs. Rock shag (Leucocarbo magellanicus), which are black birds with white chest and belly, have their place in these same cliffs.

There is a lookout point at the top with excellent panoramic views of the sea lion colony and the coastal landscape. There is a 300-metre trail leading to a second viewpoint. The best time to see the mammals is at low tide.

To get there from the centre of Puerto Madryn, first take Almirante Brown Boulevard. When you pass the monument to the Indio Tehuelche (Tehuelche Indian), continue along Julio Verne Street and then Charles Darwin. You arrive at a crossroads, where you take the road to the left that goes to Punta Loma.
