Punta Norte Nature Reserve

Information

It is a protected area located in the northeast of the Valdés peninsula. Geographically it is a point.

To get there, from the entrance where you pay the entrance ticket to the peninsula, follow Provincial Route 2 for 52 km. You reach a fork, where you take the road to the left. Along this road it is 67 km to Punta Norte.

It has a visitor's area with viewpoints and trails parallel to the coast to get to know it. It also has a cafeteria and toilets.

There are southern elephant seals and South American sea lions that coexist on the same beaches. It is frequented by killer whales especially in March and April, and from time to time there are records of these cetaceans attacking and taking sea lions from the beaches. There are also often sightings of kelp gulls (Larus dominicanus) and southern giant petrels (Macronectes giganteus) wandering around looking for fish scraps left behind by the sea lions and elephant seals.

This area is also excellent for spotting land mammals and birds. For example, large hairy armadillos (Chaetophractus villosus) and pampas foxes (Lycalopex gymnocercus) are often seen in the vicinity of the entrance.
