Península Valdés

Information

It is a peninsula located on the Argentinean sea, north of Chubut. It is a protected area that preserves its natural environment and wildlife. Its only significant population is the village of Puerto Pirámides.

How to get there:
- By car (option 1): from National Route 3, 23 km from Madryn and 237 km from Las Grutas, take paved Provincial Route 2. Drive 3 km and you get to a roundabout. There you continue along Route 2 and it is 27 km to the entrance post to the protected area.
- By car (option 2): there is an alternative to go from Madryn to Valdés along the road that goes through El Doradillo. In this case it is 46 km (32 km of gravel and 14 km of asphalt) with good beaches and a wild landscape.
- By public transport: there are buses that come and go daily from the bus terminal in Puerto Madryn to Puerto Pirámides.

At the entrance to Península Valdés you have to pay an entrance fee. From there you can continue 23 km to the interpretation centre.

Bear in mind that, from the entrance, to go around the whole peninsula you have to cover 310 km, and there is a lot to see. For this reason, you may need two days if you want to see everything (you can spend the night in Puerto Pirámides). An important fact is that in this area, daylight lasts up to 14 hours in summer, but in winter it can be as short as 9 hours.
