Information

It is a small village on the Valdés Peninsula in the province of Chubut, located on the coast of the Nuevo Gulf of the Argentine Sea. It is the only permanent settlement in this entire protected area. It has a wide sandy beach, surrounded by cliffs and with clear water.

It has hotels, restaurants, and some services such as grocery stores and public restrooms. There is an ATM and a fuel station, although it is recommended to arrive with enough cash and fuel in case they are not supplied at the time. It also has a campground with restrooms and showers, which is the only place where camping is allowed on the peninsula. The possibility of having somewhere to spend the night in Puerto Pirámides is excellent for those who come to explore the peninsula, since it is advisable to have at least 2 days to explore it at a relaxed pace and see its main attractions.

The village is full of agencies offering boat excursions around the gulf. The main options are scuba diving and whale watching by boat, an experience that allows you to see the cetaceans from very close. Keep in mind that the whales found in this area are southern right whale (Eubalaena australis), which remain in the area mainly between June and October, when they mate and begin raising their calves there.

To get to Puerto Pirámides:
— By car: from the entrance to the peninsula, it is 23 km to the Interpretation Center. From there, take the road to the right and continue for another 27 km until reaching the village. The entire route is paved.
— By public transportation: buses travel daily back and forth from the Puerto Madryn bus terminal.
