An overview of what is there and what to do in the circuit.
This circuit in the province of Chubut includes all the destinations and tourist attractions that are distributed parallel to the Argentinean sea coast. The National Route 3 is the communication route from where most of the accesses to the places of interest start.
Something to highlight is that in this circuit the possibility of being in contact with nature stands out. There are many wild places and/or protected areas that can be visited. If you wish to see the most representative wildlife, you should take into account that the magellanic penguins are present during the summer (mainly from October to March) and the Southern right whale during the winter (preferably from June to October).
The main towns with accommodation and services are Puerto Madryn in the north, Rawson and Trelew in the centre, and Camarones and Comodoro Rivadavia in the south.
Moving on to the tourist attractions, there is a lot to see:
- Starting in the north is the Valdés peninsula. You need at least a day (ideally two days) to visit the whole peninsula and see its impressive landscapes and marine fauna. From the village of Puerto Pirámides you can go on boat trips for diving and, in winter, whale-watching.
- Moving on to Puerto Madryn, it has a long beach and several nearby sites such as Punta Loma, Cerro Avanzado and El Doradillo beach.
- Trelew has a paleontological museum, and a few kilometres from Rawson is the shore at Playa Unión.
- Punta Tombo is a must-see in summer, as it has one of the most numerous penguin colonies on the continent.
- Camarones and its nearby protected area, Cabo Dos Bahías, are recommended places to see wildlife and totally wild beaches.
- To the south is the extensive beach of Rada Tilly, very crowded in summer (January to March) and holidays.
