It is a locality situated by the Argentinean sea coast, specifically on the Camarones Bay, in the province of Chubut.
It has basic services such as grocery shops, lodging (it has an inn and some houses for rent), a couple of restaurants and a municipal camping site. There is a petrol station and a bank with an ATM (check before you go if they are working).
There are many tourist attractions to visit. On the coast of the town itself is the small square Nueva León with a tower, with beaches on both sides. On sunny days you can see that the sea is completely blue. There are some islets or rocks near the shore where you can see birds such as the imperial shag (Leucocarbo atriceps) and the rock shag (Leucocarbo magellanicus).
The surroundings of Camarones are totally natural areas, where wildlife is frequently observed. It is highly recommended to take the Provincial Route 1 dirt road to the south. After 6.5 km, a secondary dirt road opens up on the left, full of natural beaches (be careful, there is no lifeguard service) which are often uncrowded. After about 19 km along this road you will reach Cabo Dos Bahías, a protected area with a penguin colony, viewpoints and a walking trail.
To get to Camarones:
- By car: take National Route 3, and at 185 km from Trelew and 190 km from Comodoro Rivadavia a secondary asphalted road starts. It is 69 km along this road to the village, but you have to go slowly because you will often come across guanacos.
- By bus: there are buses that go from Comodoro Rivadavia and Trelew (check), but only some days of the week.
